So word on the street is that Firmware 2.5 will enable a print screen ability that will allow screen captures of your favorite gaming moments. This may not seem like a big deal, but many might be surprised at the frequency that they would use this function. How cool would it be to make the ultimate online slaughter you performed on your unsuspecting victim serve as your PS3 wallpaper for all to marvel as you boot up your system? Yeah, pretty cool.

At this point everyone should be well aware that Soul Calibur 4 is going to be a Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusive game. And most controversial is the exclusive characters for each version. Shortly after announcing the Nintendo Wii release date of Spore… game producer Thomas Vu revealed that EA would love to bring the game to the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Vu told CVG…

There’s lots of technical hurdles we have to think about before we can say, ‘Okay, we can do this or not’. But we’re always looking at and thinking about these issues

and he goes on to say…

Yeah, of course we’d love to do it, but at the same time we don’t know

So who knows if Spore will ever reach the two other next gen consoles… I’d say it’s a safe bet… I’m sure EA would hate missing out on all that money.

A supposed hidden message has been found in an unlockable video in the series latest release, Twisted Metal: Head On. The recently discovered message gives various numbers, and after you put them together in alphabetical order it gives you the message “Twisted Metal is on PSTHREE“.

According to PS3.Kombo David Jaffe hinted in the past that a link to his next game could be found in the “upcoming” Head On release.

Sure, it’s not definitive proof that the title is coming for the PS3… but I’ll take what I can get.

I’m sure this news will make many Snake fans happy… as it’s been rumored that a playable Metal Gear Solid 4 demo will be available on the Playstation Network next month.

Anyone think Uncharted look pretty good? Well, according to Evan Wells (Naughty Dog Developer)… you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Kotaku.com has a quote from Evan himself…

The PLAYSTATION 3 is a complex yet powerful system. We could not pull off the rich, seamless world of Uncharted on any other console. Because the system is so powerful, it means that tapping into that power requires great engineering efforts. We’re lucky that Naughty Dog has some of the best programmers in the industry. I can also tell you that as we’re finishing Uncharted, we’ve found new ways of optimizing our engine to take advantage of the hardware. All of which means that, as beautiful as our game is, there is a lot more in store for the PLAYSTATION 3.

How much better can it get?… I guess only time will tell.

Today, Divx announced that they’ll be bringing their video technology to the Sony PS3. According to InfoSyncWorld…

Current PS3 end users will be able to add DivX functionality to their system via a separate system software update at a forthcoming date. PS3 game title developers will be able to utilize DivX’s decoder technology by updating the system software of PS3’s SDK to version 2.00, which was released by Sony on November 2.

PCWorld has a pretty neat “discussion” with a freelancer named Nick Mediati.

The PS3 can already play DVDs, CDs, and Blu-ray discs, as well as numerous other audio and video formats, so it can already serve as more than just a gaming console. DivX support only solidifies the console’s role as a media center, especially if you already have a collection of DivX-formatted videos.

He makes a very good point, with this announcement… this truly makes the PS3 a “Media Center”.

Today Trend Micro announced they have a web security service coming out for the PS3. The new service was built to block malicious websites using URL filtering combined with web reputation.

The service will be available on November 8, and will be free of charge until the end of April 2008. This service is the first globally supported Web security service for a home game system.

So what do you think about this news? It’s pretty big news that people are seeing game consoles for more than just playing games.

God of War fans can rejoice, it’s official… the PS3 is getting part 3 of the saga.

Sony’s killer app quotient just officially got a little more realistic, what with the official announcement that SCEA is working on God of War III at their Santa Monica studios. This time, Kratos will be coming to the next generation, and we can only imagine that will mean that an already-almost-perfect game will be getting that much better. At least it will be larger and prettier, and can more God of War ever be a bad thing?

It’s going to be interesting to see how they handle GOWIII, since the designer of the previous GOW title quit the company.
