After our look at the live model used for the Bayonetta advert, we just had to share a followup to some Korean marketing for Street Fighter that uses a cosplayer of their own. She’s not quite at the Bayonetta standard of quality, but she looks better than the ones we ended up with in 2 American films that featured the character. There’s a weird pervy guy hawking her down, but I’m going to chalk that up to some sort of culture gap…
What better way to start off October than with the ultimate gunwitch. This Japanese advert for Bayonetta features the most uncanny likeness to a fictional character ever. Outside of like…Lord of the Rings, rarely does that happen and they actually look better than what you imagine. How can a character so weird look so lustfully righteous? The lollipop is such a minute detail that adds 5 layers of hawtness in a borderline disturbing psychological fashion. Am I obsessing?
For TGS 09 Capcom has released what I can only think of as a ‘crap ton’ of assets on all of us. There’s a fact sheet, screenshots, and trailers galore. After reading about it, and looking at all of it I’m a bit confused by what Dead Rising 2 is actually about. Judging from the fact sheet it looks like the game will be told differently depending on whether or not you’re playing single player or multiplayer.
The main story follows Chuck Greene who is trying to protect his daughter from the zombie onslaught. On the flip side with multiplayer it looks like you’ll be competing in a reality/game show called Terror is Reality. It reminds me a bit of the movie Running Man, only the contestants look outfitted in Motorcross gear. Enjoy all the wonderful goodies below. (more…)
Big words. As GOW has a ridiculously large following. And rightly so as I’ve seen it in action first hand at a buddie’s place. Touted as one of the best reasons to own a 360, looks like us PS3 fanboys have their own run n’ gun exclusive title. The comparisons are justified by that a large exaggerated beefy soldier type runs around in 3rd person with a large exaggerated beefy weapon. The main difference seems to be the setting with a stronger sci-fi fantasy feeling. Check it out for yourself.
As a big fan of Dante’s Inferno, I honestly can’t think of how to make a game out of the source material. While doing the source justice anyway, yet the game looks to be shaping up nicely. The trailer seems to be paying homage to how the original story is based on imagery.
I just wish they could call it something else. Hellbender or something. Hellquest perhaps?
For someone who’s not really into downloadable content, I’ve talked quite a bit about DLC the past couple of days. On the heels of the RE5 DLC, comes the announcement of Killzone 2’s first DLC package. Not surprising, it will be a couple of new multiplayer maps.
The DLC pack is called Steel & Titanium. The two maps are called Wasteland Bullet, and Vekta Cruiser. The first map sounds quite intriguing as it will take place on a couple of fast moving trains. It provides some interesting environment interaction. The Vekta Cruiser sounds like a fan induced inclusion which is never a bad thing. Click the link below for more details.
Check out these pics of Nina and Jin Kazama! Granted they look like they were taken by a crew member’s phone camera but it puts many of my fears to rest. Tekken has never even really had a much of a storyline to stay true to: A bunch of badass lookin’ people get together for some sort of “Iron Fist Tournament” thing to get whipped by an 80 year old man and his demon son. From the looks at those cell phone pics the character costumes look like they pulled every stitch straight out of the video game.
There’s absolutely no reason visual faithfulness and serious storytelling have to be mutually exclusive when it comes to adapting properties like video games and comic books. My unending gratitude to the costume designers of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Watchmen, Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat and now Tekken.
So a friend showed me this link to the new Final Fantasy 13 trailer and it looks pretty sick. Of course the cut scenes are over the top action insanity, but it seems like they’ve finally raised the bar during the actual gameplay combat where the camera work seems integrated and cinematic and the character animations are seamless and fluid. Not that past efforts had fallen short, but I knew it was only a matter of the technology catching up to the execution.
I think we’re almost there, folks.
Check out our girl, Lightning I believe she’s called, (a Squall/Cloud with breasts and a gunblade) in the visual extravaganza by clicking the pic.
First and foremost this is a product made for RE fans. Those that have played through a multitude of Resident Evil games are rewarded with this CG extravaganza tailor made for them. That said, it isn’t too inaccessible for those not exposed to the lore. Secondly, this is for horror/action/zombie fans. It’s also for animation fans. Wall.E, Shrek, The Lion King. This is a cartoon. And one of the best I’d ever had the pleasure to experience.
The story follows the events and characters of Resident Evil 2, where a tragic zombie incident in the town of Raccoon City tested the survival ability of Officer Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Like John Mclain from the Die Hard movies, these characters can’t seem to get away from the harrowing experiences that define them.
I’ve restrained from buying any Blu-Ray movies as I simply don’t plan on repurchasing my old collection save a few high effects films. This new release title is a perfect excuse to pick up a Blu-Ray for sure. For some reason, animation, especially CG, benefits the most from hi-def resolution entertainment in this viewer’s eyes. And Degeneration is a visual orgy in HD.
They don’t attempt to go hyper-realistic a la Beowulf. They opt for the characters to be a bit stylized, which I enjoy. But all the faces are different and unique. For instance the 2 main heroines, while both obviously rendered to be attractive, have their own distinct facial structures and features. The attention to detail is staggering.
I, for one, love Resident Evil games, horror, action, zombies and cartoons. So, well, you can imagine a positive review coming form me. All I can say is that if you’re a fan of any combination of these elements check it out! For what it is trying to achieve,
I believe it does it flawlessly.
So blu-ray it is huh? Around the year 2000 the Playstation 2 launched as next-gen bliss completely integrated with DVD playability. Consumers were basking in the glory of the digital widescreen movie experience from the comfort of their own home. Sony’s new game system not only took gaming to the next level but allowed everyone still clinging to their VHS decks a reason to finally try out a Digital Versatile Disc.
That was my story along with millions of others.
Over the next sequential years the consumer public embraced the dvd format amassing a home movie collection of often times hundreds of titles. For me, having the widescreen versions not experienced since theater viewing was alone worth the price of admission. Along with digital video and sound, maybe someday widescreen televisions would become commonplace and affordable. What a day that would be.
Fast-forward to the climax of the hd-dvd/blu-ray war. Sony wins with a proprietary format and Blu-Ray seems to be the answer to the surge of hi-def technology flooding the electronics market. HD-DVD has been defeated but what about DVD? Are people that embracing with new tech that they can simply dump their thousands spent in dvds? This isn’t like formatting to mp3 or performing simple downloads. We’re talking about complete entertainment library replacements. The benefits for making the transition from VHS to DVD were far heavier than the current DVD to Blu-Ray jump. Consumers have to simply ask themselves, “Is it worth it?”
