The highly anticipated PS3 firmware version 2.20 hasn’t been released yet, but enthusiasts are a buzz with all it will contain.

It’s already known that the PlayStation 3 update will include the Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-Live). BD-Live will enable the Playstation 3 to access extra Blu-ray content downloaded straight from the internet. Sony stated that BD Profile 2.0 requires an Internet connection and at least 1GB of local storage to download the extra content.
Sony has also planned to remove 2GB DivX and WMV file-size cap originally placed on the system in firmware 1.50.
Lot’s of pretty playback features have been added including “Mosquito Noise Reduction”. This is truely a god send for early DVD adaptation of older films and animated movies.
Another great update is the resume play feature and let me just say it’s about bloody time. Short attention spanners rejoice, now you can start a movie get bored pop out the movie, play a game then put the movie back in an start it where you left off. This includes DVD and Blu-ray.
Sony ’s Portable Copy did not make the cut in last nights PS3 firmware update. So look for “Portable copy” in firmware 2.30. With the portable copy function, users will be able to copy a PSP formatted version of Blu-ray films directly to their PSP — no UMD required.
