Shortly after announcing the Nintendo Wii release date of Spore… game producer Thomas Vu revealed that EA would love to bring the game to the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Vu told CVG

There’s lots of technical hurdles we have to think about before we can say, ‘Okay, we can do this or not’. But we’re always looking at and thinking about these issues

and he goes on to say

Yeah, of course we’d love to do it, but at the same time we don’t know

So who knows if Spore will ever reach the two other next gen consoles… I’d say it’s a safe bet… I’m sure EA would hate missing out on all that money.

Wait… did I just say install time… the PS3 is a console correct? Well, it appears that in order to play DMC4 your required to install roughly 5GB of data onto your hard drive the first time you boot up the game.

Devil May Cry 4

Chris Kramer recently posted over at the Capcom blog about the unexpected 5GB install for DMC4. In his post he says that the data is needed in order to play the game, but he says that it’s just the one time install and will result in “near-Super Nintendo speed load times”.

News.Filefront has an excerpt from Kramer’s post…

If you don’t want to watch the “Previously, on Devil May Cry…” portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back. You’re going to be spending some serious time with this game, and we don’t want you going hungry. Low blood sugar will make you dizzy and you’ll need to be focused like an Alan Parsons Project to defeat the enemies in this game.

Wah! The game takes 20 minutes to install the first time. Wah! Have you ever played a PC game? At least we aren’t making you shuffle multiple discs into a ROM drive, or continuously click “Yes!” on a series of endless Windows dialog boxes. Installing on a console may seem like a weird idea, but there’s a real benefit. Unreal Tournament also has an option to install files onto your PS3; I’ve done it and it makes a great game even better.

Personally, I’ve not played DMC4 yet… but when I do you won’t hear me complaining. Sure you’ll spend 20 minutes of install time in the beginning… but how much time are you going to save if the load times are as fast as Kramer says they are? In my opinion… much more than 20 mintues.

So, what are your thoughts on having to install 5GB worth of data to your PS3 hard drive?

A supposed hidden message has been found in an unlockable video in the series latest release, Twisted Metal: Head On. The recently discovered message gives various numbers, and after you put them together in alphabetical order it gives you the message “Twisted Metal is on PSTHREE“.

Sweet Tooth

According to PS3.Kombo David Jaffe hinted in the past that a link to his next game could be found in the “upcoming” Head On release.

Sure, it’s not definitive proof that the title is coming for the PS3… but I’ll take what I can get.

Yesterday Sony announced since they took part in the Stanford University’s “Folding@home project” on March 22, 2007 that the registered number of users has reached well over one million users.

If your not familiar with “Folding@home”… it aims to understand protein folding and misfolding, and how these are related to diseases and many forms of cancer. When proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious consequences, including many well-known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many cancers and cancer-related syndromes, according to the release.

“Since partnering with SCEI, we have seen our research capabilities increase by leaps and bounds through the continued participation of Folding@home users,” said Vijay Pande, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home project lead. “Now we have over one million PS3 users registered for Folding@home, allowing us to address questions previously considered impossible to tackle computationally, with the goal of finding cures to some of the world’s most life-threatening diseases. We are grateful for the extraordinary worldwide participation by PS3 and PC users around the globe.”

The release also says that PS3 users make up approximately 74% of the total teraflop computing power of the project.

Jealous? The Japanese are getting the ultra-sleek satin silver PS3… while us Americans are stuck with the gloss black for now.

Silver PS3
G4TV.com has some additional details about the newly colored console…

In addition to being all sparkly, the system will come with one of those brand new rumblin’ DualShock 3 controllers when the package goes on sale March 6.

Overall, sounds like a pretty neat re-release of the console. Just can’t wait for that American release though.

What are your thoughts on the new color? Leave me a comment
